Kimball was raised in the oldest pioneer settlement in the Arizona territory. With his background, he has developed a deep love for the southwest and Native American Culture. He studied two years at Phoenix Union Commercial Art School. He served on staff at Mesa Community College in the Art department teaching art. He states, "My love for the rich artistic value of the southwest and Native American culture is the driving force behind my work. Through my education, I can add accuracy to each composition.
